Location: Carbondale, IL

U.S. Congressman Bill Enyart (D-IL) announced today that the City of Carbondale has been approved for a $290,170 award through the Grants to Encourage Arrest Policies and Enforcement of Protection Orders Program from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women.

The Grants to Encourage Arrest Policies and Enforcement of Protection Orders Program implements certain provisions of the Violence Against Women Act by providing resources for jurisdictions to enhance victim safety and offender accountability in cases of domestic or dating violence, sexual assault or stalking.

The City of Carbondale, in collaboration with the Women's Center, Inc., will use funding from this award to improve response to domestic violence. Included in the proposal will be training for personnel in the Carbondale Police Department, the Women's Center, the Jackson County Sheriff's office and the Jackson County Probation Department. It also calls for the implementation of a system within the Jackson County State's Attorney Office to facilitate the enforcement of protection orders.
